The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formally known as RCIA) is the process by which the Catholic Church welcomes and forms adults who wish to enter into full communion with the Church. This includes those who have never been baptized and are seeking Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, as well as those who were baptized in another Christian tradition and now desire to become Catholic.
OCIA begins with a period of inquiry, a relaxed time for asking questions, exploring the Catholic faith, and getting to know the parish community. As the journey continues, participants move into a deeper time of formation that includes prayer, Scripture, and learning the teachings and practices of the Church. The process leads to the Easter Vigil, where individuals are fully initiated through the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Afterward, a period of mystagogy invites new Catholics to reflect on their experience and grow further in their life of faith.
Throughout the entire journey, the OCIA team, parish members, and sponsors accompany participants with encouragement, prayer, and support, helping them feel at home in the Catholic community.
